Developed by Dr. Darick Nordstrom, the "ALF" is a light wire (.025) removable appliance that can deliver a differential amount of development in both arches. It provides a physiologic force consistent with the Arndt-Schulz Law: “Weak stimuli will increase physiologic activity while very strong stimuli will inhibit or abolish physiologic activity.” Incorporated in the treatment of a variety of malocclusions, the ALF is often used by “ALF trained” practitioners to treat chronic pain and TMD patients because of its ability to align the maxilla (cranial base) and correct cranial and upper cervical structural distortions. It's easy to adjust, does not hamper speech, can be worn comfortably while eating...and it ensures excellent development of both the inter-cuspid area and the posterior segments.
